Memorial Day
'Mine eyes have seen the glory of the Coming of the Lord....as he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free.' Sometimes one does make an attempt to live up to that view perhaps partially with pride and arrogance and one's life may be injured or cut short. The soldier preserves civil society. In science, that sacrifice can be in promoting knowledge and health. In law, it can be serving as a warning to antisocial behavior, as in the government's pursuit of Lay and Skilling. It is good that this day accepts the sacrifice for the main motive and brings peace from recrimination at ancillary error. A patient whose forbearer fought in the Revolutionary War said, 'I could never turn my back on the flag as General Lee did.' May we accept the peace of Memorial Day with him.

Nice Post, Mike.
I like the idea of the different professions serving in their repective ways. The soldier in promoting civil society and science promoting knowledge.
But most of all if I read this correctly, I like the idea of Lay and Skilling representing anti-social behavior, because if what they did is not anti-social, then we can just throw the entire concept of anti-social out the window. Can't call some kid who steals a bike or sells drugs anti-social if these two con artists are not seen as the sociopaths they are.
